This term we have been learning all about being healthy. This has involved learning about our bones and muscles, as well as making healthy food, being active and thinking about our feelings. We really enjoyed reading our book 'Beegu', where we concentrated on the character's emotions and the importance of friends. We also learnt about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, who both helped soldiers in the Crimean War and showed determination to achieve their goals. We had the opportunity to learn outside the classroom as well, taking the train to London to visit the Florence Nightingale Museum and visiting the pond to discover the wildlife around us.
Our Christmas Nativity
Year 1 have had a very busy half term learning about toys from the past. We have looked at lots of fiction books about toys; we especially enjoyed following the adventures of Traction Man! For our class trip, we took the bus to Richmond Museum to take part in a workshop; we became historians and explored different toys from the Roman, Tudor and Victorian times and discovered how to play with them. We expanded our scientific vocabulary further when describing materials in Science.
This half term, we have worked very hard! We have settled well into Year 1 and have learnt lots about animals from around the world. We enjoyed studying our English book on animals from the savannah, creating our own video documentary and writing non- fiction texts. We also explored the continent of Australia, studying the history, wildlife and art. In Science, we learnt lots of new vocabulary to describe the classification of animals.
