Year 6

Dear parents,

A warm welcome back to the final term of year 6. We have a busy and exciting term ahead, with lots of hard work and creative activities that I am confident the pupils will embrace. The topic river shares the relevant curriculum details and shows you what we will be covering this term.

Our focus this half term is SATs week, which begins on Monday 12th May and finishes on Thursday 15th May. Early lessons before school and input in class will help to prepare the pupils to confidently undertake these end of Key Stage assessments. Our traditional 'sporty breakfast' will take place during SATs week. More information regarding SATs week will be disseminated closer to the time.

The second half of this term will focus on transition activities to help prepare the pupils for their move to secondary school, ensuring it is as smooth as possible. We have another trip to look forward to on 26th June and of course Sports Day and the Junior Production!

As you can see, this is a jam-packed term with so many opportunities to make happy and life-long memories and I know the pupils will embrace everything with their usual enthusiasm and energy. This is the final term and I am looking forward to it being a very joyous and special one.

Best wishes,

Miss George

Year 6 fully embraced healthy mind and body week and even planned some of the activities for the rest of the school too. They attended wake and shake every morning, enjoyed an amazing trampoline workshop, made a healthy snack of guacamole, embraced fruit tasting wholeheartedly and finished the week with an unforgettable cooking lesson from a class parent. They learnt about Trinidadian flavours and helped to make the most delicious and healthy chicken and chickpea curry and finished the experience with a class calypso party.

Normandy Residential

At the beginning of term, Year 6 had the most wonderful time on their school residential to Normandy, where they set up home for one week at Chateau du Baffy in Columbiers-sur-Seulles. An early and wet did not dampen their spirits. Setting sail from Dover and arriving in Calais, their first stop was Honfleur. This is a beautiful town most famous for its influence over Impressionist art, it has a stunning harbour and is full of interesting buildings, which the pupils loved and even described it as like 'being on a film set'.

Year 6 enjoyed a jam-packed week of excursions and learning experiences. This included a trip to a goats cheese farm, a hike up to the abbey at Mont St-Michel, a visit to the 360 Cinema at Arromanches, a tour of the American cemetery which overlooks the D-day landing beaches, a visit to Omaha beach, a viewing of the Bayeux Tapestry, a tour of Calvados Pierre Huet family distillery and the chance to explore Falaise Castle with its unique architecture and the opportunity to learn about William the Conqueror, which was followed by a quick trip to the local hypermarket. Evenings were spent playing board games and quizzes, enjoying a movie together, sampling snails anf frogs legs and we even had time to squeeze in a disco!

This residential is more than visiting amazing sites of historical interest. It's about developing confidence, growing independence, strengthening friendships and making life-long memories. Year 6 you were amazing!
