Year 6

Year 6 Summer Pre-Learning Tasks 2026

Dear parents,

A warm welcome back to the final term of year 6. We have a busy and exciting term ahead with lots of hard work and many fun events planned too. The topic river shares the relevant curriculum details and shows you what we will be covering this term.

Our focus this half term is SATs week, which begins on Monday 11th May and finishes on Thursday 14th May. Early lessons before school and input in class will help to prepare the pupils to confidently undertake these end of Key Stage assessments. Our traditional 'sporty breakfast' will take place every morning during SATs week. A game of rounders and a hearty breakfast is an excellent way to prepare for each test. The second half of this term will focus on transition activities to help prepare the pupils for their move to secondary school, ensuring it is as smooth as possible.

This term trips will include a visit to Lord's Cricket Ground and another chance to visit the AELTC Wimbledon Qualifiers in Roehampton, and of course our school sports day and the junior production!

This is a jam-packed term with so many opportunities to make happy and life-long memories and I hope the pupils will embrace everything with enthusiasm and energy. As it is your child's final term of primary school, I am looking forward to it being a very happy and special one for them and you.

Spring Term Topic River

I would like to wish you all a very happy and healthy new year. Thank you sincerely for the beautiful and thoughtful gifts I received at the end of last term — I really appreciate your kindness and generosity.

As we begin the spring term, we have lots of exciting learning experiences planned, alongside a strong focus on supporting the children as they prepare for their upcoming Key Stage 2 Standard Assessments (SATs) in May.

Our focus this term is also to empower every child as they prepare for the exciting journey ahead. The children will be focusing on growing in confidence and independence, taking greater ownership of their learning and personal organisation. By fostering a "can-do" attitude and embracing new challenges, we aim to ensure that every child leaves Year 6 feeling self-assured, resilient, and fully equipped for the leap to secondary school. I look forward to working together with you to ensure every child feels confident, supported, and ready to achieve their very best.

Best wishes,

Miss George

Roles of Responsibilty in Year 6

Anti-bullying Week

This week some of our Year 6 ambassadors worked together to plan and present a Remembrance assembly for Key Stage Two. They explained the origins of Remembrance day and thought about the symbolism behind the poppy and why we wear one during the month of November. Next, they asked all the year groups to come together and pray for all the soldiers who fought in the First World War and the Second World War, and all the people around the world who are still sadly experiencing conflict and war. Each child left the assembly with a poppy for their class spirituality book.

Well done Year 6 ambassadors - you showed respect, care and were able to share your knowledge and understanding with the rest of Key Stage Two.

At the beginning of term, Year 6 had the most wonderful time on their school residential to Normandy, where they set up home for one week at Chateau du Baffy in Columbiers-sur-Seulles. An early start and a very rocky crossing did not dampen their spirits. Setting sail from Dover and arriving in Calais, their first stop was Honfleur. This is a beautiful town most famous for its influence over Impressionist art, it has a stunning harbour and is full of interesting buildings.

Year 6 enjoyed a jam-packed week of excursions and learning experiences. This included trips to: a goats cheese farm, the 360 Cinema at Arromanches, the American cemetery, Omaha and Juno beaches (two of the five D-Day landing beaches), a tour of Calvados Pierre Huet family distillery and the chance to explore Falaise Castle with its unique architecture and the opportunity to learn about William the Conqueror, which was followed by a quick trip to the local hypermarket. Evenings were spent playing board games and quizzes, enjoying a movie together, sampling snails and frogs legs and we even had time to squeeze in a disco!

This residential is more than visiting amazing sites of historical interest. It's about developing confidence, growing independence, strengthening friendships and making life-long memories. Year 6 you were amazing!

Barnes to Bruges - the BIG Send Off

First week back and bursting with energy ...

Welcome to year 6, where we have had an extremely busy and productive start to our autumn term. The topic river below outlines the learning content and subject coverage for this term. As you can see the class texts 'War Horse' and 'Goodnight Mister Tom' relate closely to our history topic 'The Battle of Britain'. The pupils' learning will also be supported and enriched with several class trips this term.

A motivated and dedicated approach by all members of year 6 is essential to ensure that high expectations are embraced enthusiastically, and that each member of the class is ready to learn, is respectful of others and school property and believes in themselves and their peers.

I very much look forward to teaching your child this year; helping them to grow and mature into a thoughtful and confident young person, who aims to be the best they can be spiritually, academically, socially and physically.
