Year 5

Summer 2 pre-learning tasks

Summer 1 pre-learning tasks

I cannot believe it is the end of term two already - it really is true what they say, time flies when your having fun and we certainly had a lot of fun! Year 5 enjoyed time this term learning about the ancient Maya civilisation, and have gotten hooked on our new text "The Song from Somewhere else." They also had a lot of fun during world book day where they displayed fabulous costumes and showed me they could even rap during their workshop. I was blown away by their eggstravaganzas only this week, the work and effort that was put into creating each piece is incredible! I hope you all have a fantastic,  well deserved break and I look forward to more fun in our summer term!

Spring 2 pre-learning tasks

Healthy Mind and Body Week

At the beginning of January, year 5 joined the rest of the school in marking healthy mind and body week 2023. Throughout this week we did lots of learning both in and out of the classroom about how to keep both our minds and body week. Some of our highlights included a fantastic circus skills workshop and working as a team to make some delicious soups in addition to tasting different fruit and vegetables as an afternoon snack. Year 5 commented that they thoroughly enjoyed their week and now know ways which they can keep their minds and bodies happy and healthy!

Christmas pre-learning tasks

Autumn

We have had a busy term in year 5 with lots of learning . We were even lucky enough to visit a Victorian School house in Gunnersbury House as part of our History topic. The children had a lot of fun experiencing what school would have been like back in the 1880's. During our visit, the children undertook reading, writing and arithmetic in addition to experiencing some traditional punishments such wearing finger stocks or a back straightener. Safe to say we all had a fantastic day and learned lots!

The class have worked extremely hard over this term and I am so proud of them. I wish them all a wonderful, relaxing break over the Christmas period and I look forward to our return in January for another term of fun and learning.
